Approximately 60,000 BC residents are infected with the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) and the incidence is highest in those born before 1965.Approximately 70% of those infected develop chronic infection and 1 in 4 patients do not know they have HCV.Therapy for HCV has evolved tremendously in the past decade and current therapies are much more effective and tolerable than those in the past.Our infectious disease specialists provide expertise in HCV eradication.We work with our integrated pharmacies to minimize barriers to care and maximize access to treatment.
Weight Management Clinic
Chronic excess weight is a significant health concern: in 2010, 40% of adult British Columbians were overweight and 19% were obese. Obesity increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes and certain types of cancer. This epidemic also affects qualify of life and mental health. Our multi-disciplinary team of specialists, obesity and diet educators and pharmacists work collaboratively to address the many causes of increased weight, review healthy meal and exercise planning, treatments and strategies for sustainable change. One hour group educational sessions are conducted on a regular basis. Referral from a family physician or other specialist is required to participate in this program.
